A tray of snacks, cozy atmosphere, chatting and laughing while playing couch co-op video games is the perfect date night for you and your partner.

We’re celebrating our 30th Year together this year, 29 years married, and over that time we’ve developed a date night that works like a champ. We just call it “The Tray”, but it’s about playing games together and eating easy-to-prepare finger foods on Saturdays. No one cooks, clean up is easy, and you’re having fun together. No need to get super fancy.

Call it What You Will

For us it’s “The Tray”, mainly because “Charcuterie Board” sounds snobby, “Tapas” sounds too involved, and calls to mind too much cooking. “Lunchables”, we’ve heard it called as well — which seems to sneer a bit too much. Whatever you call it, the point is that you’re not doing much more than chopping up a few items. Maybe one cooked item at most, as long as it’s easy.

Big or Small, Let the tray fit the mood

Sometimes you just want a little fruit and cheese, or chocolates or something similar. We call this a “Baby Tray”, not enough to really feed you — but something quick you can toss together. “Baby Tray” or “Full Tray” really depends on if you plan to include another meal later, or if this is gonna…
