DIY Solar Powered Window Air Conditioner: Part 2, Redesign/Prototype
I’ve been building a solar powered Air Conditioner that can sit in a window and help take the edge off the heat in one of the rooms in my house. In my previous article, I decided to use commodity CPU cooling parts — mainly due to how readily available they are online. Now, I’m assembling the project and to see if I can just get the basics to work together, adjust the design for safety, make sure things are working like I assumed they would, and see how close I am to my theoretical power budget. This stage will be powered by mains/120v stepped down to 12v. Once I have the actual power needs addressed, I’ll work on solar + battery power. Ultimately, it should probably be able to use either power source.
Since we have water and power in proximity, let’s put in some fuses for everything.. since we’re using 12v, there’s already some really great fuseblocks we can repurpose from automotive suppliers! Even better, I found some great fuseboxes for use in boats!
Assembly using the fusebox was so much better than soldered power bus lines. Pop in the expected fuse sizes, and go. Granted I think I over-sized the Peltier fuses, as it’s a total of…
